He may have presented the project
as a mixtape, but this week has seen the confirmation of news that Drake‘s
‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ isn’t a mixtape at all…it’s an
album.
The 17-track mixtape/album arrived just hours after the 28-year-old
rapper debuted a short film called Jungle, which featured Drake roaming
his hometown of Toronto.
The project came as a surprise because fans had anticipated a free
mixtape soon instead of a paid album. A previously announced album, Views
from the 6, is expected to drop sometime this year unless it was retitled
as “If You’re Reading This It’s
Too Late”.
DatPiff’s Kyle Reilly revealed:
“Originally
we were in talks to release it for free…and have DJ Drama host and even make it
an official Gangsta Grillz…however the label was not in favour of that and they
struck an agreement to release the project the retail route and it would count
towards one of his albums. It was a mutual decision since he wanted to give it
away. Cash Money said, ‘Hell no,’ not in those words, so they ‘agreed’ to do it
this way as a middle ground and it would count towards his Cash Money deal
album total. The label had zero input or creative control over IT.”
The album features guest
appearances by Lil’ Wayne, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Travi$ Scott… Download link below.
